The project

One programme, three quite different places

2200 gives emerging artists time and space away from their usual routine. Residents live and work on site for about three months and develop a project that grows out of the place.

Every residency follows the same programme. Alongside the studio, artists receive mentoring on presenting their work and planning exhibitions.

What changes is the place. Flims is a village with a busy ski season, so residents mostly meet people from outside the art world. The Furkapass is high, remote and yet transitional. Ponte Brolla will host multiple artists at once and is built for exchange between disciplines.

Flims

Die Alte Post

A 1950s post office on the edge of Flims, right next to the Caumasee. Residents live in the former garage, work in the old parcel room and show their work where people once queued at the counters. The Rhine Gorge lies on one side, the Tectonic Arena Sardona World Heritage Site on the other. In winter the village fills with skiers, so most people you meet here are not from the art world.

Furkapass

Das Refugio

The former Hotel Furkablick, built in the late 1800s, stands at the top of the Furkapass, well above the treeline. Residents have 50 square metres inside the historic building, whose timber and stone are left deliberately rough. There is little to distract from the peaks and alpine meadows around it. The Refugio suits artists who want solitude, clear high-altitude light and long stretches of concentrated work. It is being renovated and opens in summer 2027.

Il Magazzino

A historic rubble-stone warehouse where the Maggia Valley and the Centovalli begin. The roof is being raised to create tall gallery rooms for large-format work, lit by a band of windows that runs around the building. Several artists will live here at the same time, which makes it the place for exchange across disciplines. The Magazzino will also have exhibition space, a zero-waste restaurant and a bed & breakfast.

The residency

What a residency includes

Space
A studio and a place to live, on site.
Time
About three months. We set the dates together with you.
Allowance
CHF 500 a month for food.
Material and travel
We help with both. Tell us what your project needs, and we’ll work out the support together.
Mentoring
Sessions on presenting your work and planning exhibitions.
Open studio
Where it suits your work, you open the studio to visitors during your stay.

How to apply

  1. Choose a place

    Flims has a winter slot open from November 2026. The Furkapass takes applications for its first season in summer 2027. Ponte Brolla follows in 2029.

  2. Send a dossier

    Your portfolio and CV, plus an idea for a project. Describe how the project relates to the place you are applying for: its landscape, its history, the building or the people who live there. German, Italian, French or English.

  3. Selection

    The programme team and an external art professional review every dossier and invite a shortlist to a conversation.

  4. Dates

    We fix your dates together. Residencies run in cycles of about twelve weeks.
